Planning - Storyboards

These are the images of the storyboards which I have drawn to plan my video.  I believe that this will help me when filming my videos as the shots will be roughly pre-planned.
This image shows the first part an overall image of my storyboard, from the start to finish of my music video.  I have the sheet is double sided and the images go onto the back of the sheet.  I drew the storyboards on an A3 piece of paper, with a pen, pencil and ruler.  I found that having it on 1 double sided A3 was a lot better than having it on multiple A4 as firstly the images will be a lot clearer as they are bigger and easier to view. Also it would mean carrying less paper around.  I numbered each of the shots with numbers, as well as giving a description below of wheat the shot is, what the context is and if there was any effects in editing. This will not only be helpful when filming but when editing as well.  A lot of time will be saved by knowing what I am going to be doing.

This is the shots up close on the first page:

  1. The first box shows a shot of the couple at home.  I want this to be raw VHS footage which will play before any music.  This will be a close up shot of the couple.
  2. The second image shows potential titles.  At the start of the video I would like there to be titles in a similar VHS style.
  3. This image shows a woods.  This shot will be a wide shot of the trees and the shot will slowly move in.  This will be difficult to achieve.  Perhaps this shot could be in black and white.
  4. There is a black screen here to break up the parts of the song.
  5. The next shot is a hand held shot in the style of the paparazzi of the couple. It shows them walking through the dark.  The shot tracks them as they walk.  The effects used will be a lot of noise and grain to make it look vintage and rough.
  6. Then again the screen is black to show the change in music.
  7. The final shot on this section is of the couple lying on a bed.  It is not obvious that it is a bed that they are lying on.  They lay on sheets, lightly coloured.  The male looks directly at the camera and the female stares directly at him.  This is meant to be representative of what the characters are like; she adores him and he is obsessed with control.

  1. In the next section of the storyboard, the first shot is of the female sat on a bed.  She sits with the headboard of the bed frames/outlines her.  She stares directly at the camera.  This is a wide shot of the female and will show her vulnerability.
  2. The next shot goes back to the shot of the two on the bed.  The shot is a close up, from a high angle. The difference between the last shot of the couple and this one is that the female has gone.  Now only the male remains.  He still makes eye contact with the camera and hasn't moved.
  3. The next shot shows the couple running around in a field.  The shot here is a point of view shot from the males perspective and shows the female chasing him.  This shows them happy.
  4. This shot is hand held and meant to mimic home footage.  The shot shows the female holding the camera and filming the two of them.  The male sits slightly behind her.  In editing I would add an effect to give the shot a recording frame.
  5. The final shot in this section shows the male driving in a car towards the camera.  The camera tracks the car as it moves.  The shot is a wide, establishing shot.  This shot could be in black and white.

This image shows the second part of my storyboard.  This half wasn't as clear as the first as i found it was difficult to draw the images. Again this was done on A3, it was the other side of the previous page.  A lot of the shots I have drawn will be furthered and extended when they are used in my video.  By this I meant that the shot may be from different angles or with different effects; this is a rough run through.  However, what I have created here will be extremely helpful when it comes to filming my video and as it is just one sheet, very easy to use/carry on filming days.

  1. The first three shots of the second half of the storyboard are shown to the left.  There is a lot of representation which I have used throughout the shots.  The first shot here for example.  This shot shots a time lapse of a live flower.  the flower is blooming and growing with a lot of life.  This flower is representative of the female.   This is how she is at the beginning of the video.
  2. The second shot in this section of the storyboard is of the females eyes.  This shot is a close up of the females eyes and shows her being scared.  This shot is a foreshadow of what is to come.  What you later find out is what she is scared about.
  3. The next shot is a form of over the shoulder shot of the female looking in the mirror.  The woman is writing on the mirror with lipstick.  'HELP' is what she writes.  This again gives the hidden violence away before the video displays it.
  1. Here the shot begins to show the change in the couples relationship. The first shot is a close up shot of the female.  She leans over and sniffs powder off the surface.  This is a very intense shot.  The editing will put it in black and white.
  2. The male us seen here.  It is a mid shot of him from a low angle.  He hits the camera, which moves it.  This is meant to show a POV from the females perspective.  This is the first shot of violence of the male.  The editing will put it in black and white.
  3. The next shot is repetition of the one of the flower.  However, before the shot captured a live flower.  Whereas now, the flowing is dying.  This again will be in a time lapsed style.
  4. The next shot will be shot with a waterproof camera.  This shot will be underwater.  This will be a close up of the females face as she is held underwater by the male.  This again is a shot showing the abuse from the male towards the female.  It is also a shot which foreshadows when she later falls into the water.  Here she is overwhelmed and submerged in the lifestyle, but later she'll be drowning in it.
  5. The next shot hints at the lifestyle getting worse.  The couple have now turned to injecting drugs.  This represents the most dependent drugs.  The shot here is a close up of the needle, with the light shinning through it.
  6. The final shot of the video shots the female falling backwards into water.  This shot is a long shot of the female.  As she fall she goes out of focus.  The shot will be representative of her death; she hasn't actually died this way, or died at all.  However, the woman is only downing in her lifestyle; drugs, violence and suffocating fame.
